Feral Cat on a Cold Morning
![]()
About the only time I can get remotely close to these feral cats in the neighborhood is when they’re sunning themselves on a cold morning. Even then, this guy ran away right after the photo was taken.
If you’re wondering about the tree behind the cat, that would be the enormous oak in my neighbor’s yard. It’s massive and provides plenty of shade for parking. Never a day with a hot car!
Controlled Burn
With this photo, I am unofficially declaring this week as San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park Nature Trail Week or SFHPSPNTW. My family and I went on a trail hike yesterday and found a great place to get away from the traffic and into a green landscape.
The park is huge and has a few miles of hiking-only trails at the southern end where we decided to go. This is a good thing because mountain bikes are everywhere around here, in spite of us having no mountains. I’m not complaining, though. When I used to ride, one of the best places to go was right here in San Felasco. There are miles of multi-use trails at the northern end of the park.
This image captures the decaying remnants of a fallen pine tree that shows signs of a controlled burn at some point. Looking around, you would never know it, but it must have been a while ago. I don’t know the schedule of controlled burns around here, but I can say that I wouldn’t want to be anywhere near that place when they do it. I never could understand how they manage to keep those fires controlled.
Shady Palm and a Blue Sky
This photo was apparently stuck in limbo, with the message to my phone downloaded, but not the image. When I checked incoming messages yesterday, to my surprise, I found this great photo of a palm tree (in our front yard, maybe, but something tells me that it isn’t).
In previous shots using the Casio G’Zone, the center of the image tends to be discolored, especially when shooting earthy colors. It looks like Nancy nailed the perfect shot to cancel out this discoloration, using a light background and an earthy foreground. There’s no cropping on this photo either. It’s directly out of the camera phone. Personally, I love it. How about you?

Howard Roark was a Spider
This is a great time of year to capture spider webs because we get a lot of fog in the morning. When I say fog, I’m talking about the type that’s like rain in suspended animation. The thick and damp fog with low visibility. However, with this low visibility comes high visibility.
And if you aren’t sure who Howard Roark is, go here and be enlightened.
More fog in upcoming days. Happy Friday!
Up a Tree (Without a Paddle?)
Last tree, I swear (yeah, right).
By the way, I hear that Nokia is coming out with a touchscreen version of the 5610 (the camera used in the last ten posts or so). Wonder if I’ll get a shot at test driving one of those?
In other news, it is rumored that Verizon, among others, will be picking up a CDMA-version iPhone. I normally don’t jump on the bandwagon, but I love the iPhone features and interface from what I’ve seen. The only reason I don’t have one is because AT&T is horrible where I live. If Verizon gets it, then it’s upgrade time (but I’m not holding my breath).
