UFO Sighting?
My youngest daughter is in the habit of taking my phone and shooting random photos without me knowing. It’s cute and I’m treated to a surprise when I try saving a photo, only to discover that the memory is full. I delete a lot of the photos, but some are keepers, like this one.
So it’s not really a UFO. (If you think it is a UFO, then I’ll sell you the rights to the photo for $25,000.) It looks eerily like a ceiling fan, but what do I know. Regardless, here’s what I did to make it look less like a crappy ceiling fan shot and more like a less crappy ceiling fan shot.
Open the photo in Picasa2 and adjust the image levels if needed. We’re looking to darken the outside and keep the focus on the subject. Then apply a film grain effect, followed by the filtered black-and-white effect. Finish it off with a soft focus to further add mystery to the background and then crop to your liking. I may have applied a glow effect, but I can’t remember. Maybe the aliens wiped my brain.
On a side note, I’ll be giving this blog a face lift next week, so bear with any weirdness that you might encounter. While the Mimbo template is well done, it’s got some quirks that frustrate me to no end. I’ll probably be moving to the super-slick WP Premium theme, but with some visual changes. Thanks in advance!
