Never Give Rides to Geckos
After about a half hour of driving on Interstate 95, a little gecko appeared on the windshield, just behind the wiper blade. For some reason, the little guy was trying to find somewhere else to go, which was a bad idea since there was plenty of protection behind the wiper blade.
After a few futile attempts to walk to the other wiper, he finally made it, only to be blown away due to excessive and reckless celebration. I mean this guy was doing back flips and high-fiving himself, forgetting that the car was flying down the highway. While I admired the amazing wiper blade crossing, I had to admit that the partying should have been saved for the exit ramp.
If he had only waited another half-mile, then the party would have been on. But pride got the best of him, leaving him stranded on a four-lane highway.
A gecko without a cause, living life on the edge.

It’s All Just a Blur
The past 12 days have been exactly what you see here. Me passed out on University Avenue, watching cars pass by.
OK, maybe not, but it certainly felt like time flew by. My kids were out of school on Spring break and away for the entire time. My wife and I had a quiet house to ourselves. The days came and went. The kids returned safely home. Nancy finishes the Spring semester in about two weeks.
I’m not sure how this happens, but it feels like a time warp. Maybe Dan could explain it, since he’s a sci-fi writer and all that. Maybe I need inertial dampers to slow things down. Maybe I should quit my job and support my family as a pro blogger. LOL! Double LOL!
Either way, time is what it is and all I know is that I’m one year older as of the 6th of this month (gratuitous birthday mention) and I feel so much better for it. Go on and pass birthday wishes to Rolando as well, as he just turned 24 (again). If you have a birthday and I don’t know or didn’t remember, let me know and I’ll give you props.
As far as the site is concerned, you’ll notice the neato cool Revver widget thingy on the sidebar that contains the hundreds of video tutorials I’ve produced. OK, it’s only four, but the magnitude of their quality makes it seem like hundreds. I’m working on another one, so stay tuned.
Future improvements:
- putting back the top commentators widget as soon as it gets fixed for Wordpress 2.5
- adding some other cool widget that actually serves a purpose – suggestions are welcome
- opening a Cafepress shop so you can buy magnets and thongs with my photos on them…nah, too much work, but maybe in a year or ten
- asking you to send me your fab camera phone photos so you can be the next guest poster on this awesomely popular PR3 blog (pending me setting up an e-mail address for it)
- Strive to be like Joeprah, even though that is nearly impossible – at least his wit and humor can inspire me
Stay tuned for more exciting camera phone photos, like a cloud or a rock or maybe even a tree. Yeah man, breakin’ the rules.
That’s how I roll.

Where Are My Keys? Outside. In the Road.
No really. They’re IN the road.
What happens to all of the trash on the road? Some of it gets picked up, some of it gets washed away by the rain. But some of it – usually small and metal – gets compressed into the asphalt.
Aside from all things photographic, what makes this photo interesting to me is trying to determine the origin of the debris. What does the key unlock? What drink was contained by that bottle cap? How many nails were picked up by the tires of unsuspecting motorists before the rest decided to stick around? How old is all of this stuff?
I suppose that might be a weak argument to some, but I can rationalize my intrigue with road debris through mystery. With mystery, there is potential for a much more robust story. Without mystery, there’s a better chance that there’s no amazing story. (OK, maybe there is, but it’s not nearly as compelling to me.) A mildewed and worn dining room table on the side of the road is far less interesting and mysterious than a key embedded in asphalt. Maybe it’s the metal and the endurance. Maybe it’s the timelessness of it.
Maybe I’m just crazy.
…deep thought…
…deeper thought…
Yes, that’s must be it.
In this picture:
- bottle caps
- a key
- washers
- aluminum can
- nails
- screws
- nuts and bolts
- a paperclip
- other bits of unidentifiable metal
