Paynes Prairie as Seen Through a Nokia 6650
![]()
Its time for another round of new photos with a new phone. The Nokia team at WOM World hooked me up once again, this time with the GPS-enabled Nokia 6650. While it only sports a 2 mega-pixel camera, the quality of the shots are not too bad, at least when compared to the the Nokia 3555.
This shot was taken in the morning at my nature hangout on US441, Paynes Prairie. The exposure color is off a bit and it has quite a lot of noise, but again, not bad for a low-end camera. I would think, though, that a phone with so many features would have at least a 3 mega-pixel camera.
I’m also uploading photos and video clips at the Nokia Chronicles website for their 6650 promotion. Unfortunately, the site doesn’t appear to be fully operational, but keep checking back.
Cat Burglar – Busted!
Remember Amy? She’s the long-lost cat who came back home, only to find a different homeowner. She also hung around our house long enough to get healed from her ills, only to move across the street where the traffic level was lower (and there were no kids).
She’s been hanging around a lot lately, so I guess the toddler granddaughter that now spends a lot of time at the neighbor’s house became too much. I think the insanely large feral cat population over there was bothering her as well, so she moved into the dog-protected zone for some peace and quiet. I know, she would rather listen to my three mutts than deal with her own kind. Thankfully, our dogs know not to mess with her.
This morning, I caught her trying to steal my motorcycle. Really. Look at that face! How much more guilty can you get! Now that I have photographic evidence, I’m calling the police and…aww, she’s so cute. I need to go get some food for her, I’ll be right back.
Foggy Morning Sunrise
As I left the parking lot of my kids’ school this morning, I looked up to find the sun just above the trees, attempting to burn through the morning fog. If you remember, I did something similar during a visit to Paynes Prairie back in December.
Fog is a great diffuser and can be used to your advantage. Jon has captured some amazing shots in foggy conditions, showing what positive effects fog can have on your photos. (And to think that people pay hundreds of dollars to achieve the same effect in Photoshop!) The next time you’ve got a foggy day (or night), take out the camera and start shooting.

Foggy Morning on Paynes Prairie
What a total coincidence today’s photo is. I was tagged by Opal to post one of my favorite photos. Instead of digging through the files, all I had to do was shoot one with the trusty camera phone.
On my way into work, I decided to pass my normal turn and stop at the Paynes Prairie overlook. It was a foggy morning and I expected to capture some decent photos for the blog. After snapping a few photos, I started to gear up for my ride to work, but was distracted by the sun suddenly being obscured by a heavy fog bank. Quickly, I opened up the camera phone and looked up, surprised to see four palms in a row with a fog-filtered sun just above. As soon as I captured the photo, the fog lifted. Amazing.
This is one of my favorite shots. I did absolutely no retouching on this one. It’s right off the camera phone. No cropping, no levels, no sharpening. The only thing I did on the phone itself was adjust the brightness to -1 to counter the bright, fog-diffused sunlight. There’s more from this morning that I’ll load up for posting this week. Everything is dead, but it brings a new kind of beauty to the prairie.
