Where’s Joe?

8 Comments | This entry was posted on Jun 24 2008

Camel in the tree barkIn this particular case, we’re talking about the cigarette-smoking camel, not the Joeprah. He’s off doing some commercial for Graco in Atlanta, schmoozing it up with the Hollywood types and having himself a little bit of fun. Not a bad gig for being a stay-at-home dad.

While he’s gone, I’ve been entrusted to post on his behalf, which I’m sure will result in a lifetime ban from the Internet. But the bar is high, so I’m hoping that my sarcasm and wit will be enough to at least keep a few readers from wanting to sue him for mental distress caused by mediocre content. If you’re brave enough, go check it out.

But enough about Joe(prah).

Nancy took this picture about six months ago, probably on the University of Florida campus. It’s just a shot of tree bark, right? Well, let’s see if you can locate the head of a camel in there. If you can find it, then you are a visionary beyond your wildest dreams or you’ve been awake too long. It’s in there, trust me. If I have a moment later on, I’ll post an updated photo with the outline. Happy camel hunting!

Welcome Joeprah readers!

A Click-Through for Joe is a Click-Through for the Bunny

bunny.jpgFirst, I’m going to ask for your help in winning the Joeprah referral contest. Look to the right side there and you’ll see a cute kid with some self-aggrandizing text. No, not my previous post, the orange badge thing. Do me a favor and click on it. When you get to the site, stay there, because Joe is friggin’ awesome. He will definitely crack you up at least once. Twice if you’re lucky. Many times if you have a twisted sense of humor. Be sure to repeat this process at least seventy-two times each hour for the next month and a half. Rinse, repeat.

Don’t do it for me, do it for the cute bunny.

There are other competitors who have a serious chance at beating me down, but I am refusing to go down without a fight. Check out the current standings.

Second, I’d like to thank everyone who checked out the Dog and Bunny show. I’m at about 10,000 views, which is pretty cool considering I only posted it so my sister-in-law could watch it. Given the enormous success, Episode 2 is now out and this time with an awesome soundtrack. Dan was thinking the same thing when it came to audio, as the first one was just a rough cut with a lot of background noise. Episode 2 has an intro and background music, courtesy Bronco. Go see it, you won’t be sorry. Tell all of you animal behavior friends about it.

And don’t forgete, i can be found on Twitter now, so follow me!

Thanks for watching!

It’s All Just a Blur

roadblur.jpgThe past 12 days have been exactly what you see here. Me passed out on University Avenue, watching cars pass by.

OK, maybe not, but it certainly felt like time flew by. My kids were out of school on Spring break and away for the entire time. My wife and I had a quiet house to ourselves. The days came and went. The kids returned safely home. Nancy finishes the Spring semester in about two weeks.

I’m not sure how this happens, but it feels like a time warp. Maybe Dan could explain it, since he’s a sci-fi writer and all that. Maybe I need inertial dampers to slow things down. Maybe I should quit my job and support my family as a pro blogger. LOL! Double LOL!

Either way, time is what it is and all I know is that I’m one year older as of the 6th of this month (gratuitous birthday mention) and I feel so much better for it. Go on and pass birthday wishes to Rolando as well, as he just turned 24 (again). If you have a birthday and I don’t know or didn’t remember, let me know and I’ll give you props.

As far as the site is concerned, you’ll notice the neato cool Revver widget thingy on the sidebar that contains the hundreds of video tutorials I’ve produced. OK, it’s only four, but the magnitude of their quality makes it seem like hundreds. I’m working on another one, so stay tuned.

Future improvements:

  • putting back the top commentators widget as soon as it gets fixed for Wordpress 2.5
  • adding some other cool widget that actually serves a purpose – suggestions are welcome
  • opening a Cafepress shop so you can buy magnets and thongs with my photos on them…nah, too much work, but maybe in a year or ten
  • asking you to send me your fab camera phone photos so you can be the next guest poster on this awesomely popular PR3 blog (pending me setting up an e-mail address for it)
  • Strive to be like Joeprah, even though that is nearly impossible – at least his wit and humor can inspire me

Stay tuned for more exciting camera phone photos, like a cloud or a rock or maybe even a tree. Yeah man, breakin’ the rules.

That’s how I roll.

Foggy Morning on Paynes Prairie

What a total coincidence today’s photo is. I was tagged by Opal to post one of my favorite photos. Instead of digging through the files, all I had to do was shoot one with the trusty camera phone.

On my way into work, I decided to pass my normal turn and stop at the Paynes Prairie overlook. It was a foggy morning and I expected to capture some decent photos for the blog. After snapping a few photos, I started to gear up for my ride to work, but was distracted by the sun suddenly being obscured by a heavy fog bank. Quickly, I opened up the camera phone and looked up, surprised to see four palms in a row with a fog-filtered sun just above. As soon as I captured the photo, the fog lifted. Amazing.

This is one of my favorite shots. I did absolutely no retouching on this one. It’s right off the camera phone. No cropping, no levels, no sharpening. The only thing I did on the phone itself was adjust the brightness to -1 to counter the bright, fog-diffused sunlight. There’s more from this morning that I’ll load up for posting this week. Everything is dead, but it brings a new kind of beauty to the prairie.

I’d also like to welcome everyone who may have found their way here via Vegan Momma. Opal was kind enough to feature me in her sidebar RSS feed and I’m appreciative for the gesture. Thanks!

Finally, celebrity daddy-blogger Joe at joeprah.com has inflated my ego with a fabulous blog review. Please go visit him and tell him how awesome he is. I mean, really, how can you not want to read a post titled, Mission Impoopable?
