The Epitome of “Pity Me”

Bath night in my house. Three wet dogs. Loads of wallowing in dog self-pity while allowing the flea killer to do work it’s magic. For the record, they were freaking out and running around all happy-like after the torture bath shown above.

From left to right: Thor (American Eskimo), Rosie (Chihuahua), Sage (Cockapoo). No dogs’ feelings were hurt during this photo shoot.

Grayscale Week, Day 7: Pwned by Amy the Cat

pwned.jpgHere’s Amy the cat, making it known to the feral population in my neighborhood that she owns me. I pet her, she meowed and then sat down just like that. Aww, how cute.

Tune in next week (tomorrow) for Sepia Week! Seven days of sepia tone photos, all using the built-in sepia filter. Then after that maybe Negative Week, which will be incredibly cool and weird at the same time.

Grayscale Week, Day 6: Riding Bikes

moving_bike.jpgToday was a great day to go outside and sweat off about 32 pounds in the 96 degree heat. Try as I might, I was only able to fend off my girls until 4pm, at which the temperature dropped to a mild 93 degrees. Outside we went.

After finding a snake skin, a giant caterpillar and a huge banana spider, the kids started riding bikes. I had a beer. And took some photos. Out of them all, this one was the best.

The neat thing about this is that the movement of the bike made the round wheels oval and gave a little bit of blur to accent the motion. No Photoshop here, just me laying in the driveway while kids ride by.

Grayscale Week, Day 5: Elephant Ears

elephant_ears.jpgWhat a day. I took this picture on my way out the door, but forgot to post it! Better late than never. I’m surprised Dan didn’t prod me for a post. Speaking of Dan, congratulate him on his Photoshop victory where he made John Chow look like Britney Spears. Sheer brilliance.

Alongside the pinecone ginger are some elephant ears that come up every spring and bloom in the late summer. If it’s a mild winter, they hang around, but one good freeze and they’re history.

They seem to be doing much better this year than last, probably due to the heavy rains we had last month. Hopefully, the rains will return. But then again, that just means I have to mow the lawn more.

Grayscale Week, Day 4: Self-Portrait

self-portrait.jpgEver get stuck in a rut, taking photos of the same old stuff? I feel that way now, so I’ve been trying to think differently about photo subjects.

Right before I walked in the door to work this morning, it hit me to do a self-portrait. However, I didn’t want it to look plain with a cluttered background. Taking a cue from Chica, I held the camera at waist-level and shot upwards. Without even looking at it, I saved the image and walked into the building.

It turned out much better than I expected. The cloudless sky definitely makes this photo, in my opinion. I’m going to be doing more of this in the future, for sure. Maybe a self-portrait week? We’ll see.

Wordless Wednesday 29 Revealed: Water, Anyone?

6 Comments | This entry was posted on Aug 07 2008

water-cooler.jpgI’m amazed at the amount of nearly correct guesses there were with this one. Lots of you said something about a reflection or water, which was nearly correct, but the actual source of that was the water cooler in the hallway.

The horizontal and vertical stripes are part of the bottle and the “hair” behind it is actually some hideous textured wallpaper. I will never look at the walls the same way again.

The angle of the shot was taken just below the water level inside the container, which gave it that reflected look. All I did in Photoshop was adjust the contrast and crop out the top and bottom.

Without further ado, this weeks winners: MommyWizdom, Mojo, dcr (bonus points for telling me about the broken link), Michelle Gartner, CatSynth, Raven, strider, Sister Sassy (bonus points for the hairy arm reference), Bill (bonus points for creativity), and Marsha. Good job, hope to see you around soon! (Like tomorrow!)
