Fatherhood Friday 1
My other life over at Dad Blogs has started a new weekly meme called Fatherhood Friday. I thought about how to do that meme over here and determined that I can post a photo of something fatherhood-ish, taken with a camera phone (of course).
This week’s image is a photo of one of the family favorite stuffed animals. He’s got a British accent, has a cartoon and a book (I think) and is geared toward the preschool crowd. This guy is so popular that we might have to share time with him when the kids grow up and move on. I’ll stop there and see if you can figure it out.
Grayscale Week, Day 6: Riding Bikes
Today was a great day to go outside and sweat off about 32 pounds in the 96 degree heat. Try as I might, I was only able to fend off my girls until 4pm, at which the temperature dropped to a mild 93 degrees. Outside we went.
After finding a snake skin, a giant caterpillar and a huge banana spider, the kids started riding bikes. I had a beer. And took some photos. Out of them all, this one was the best.
The neat thing about this is that the movement of the bike made the round wheels oval and gave a little bit of blur to accent the motion. No Photoshop here, just me laying in the driveway while kids ride by.

Swing Low
Just enjoying a lazy Saturday of coffee, clear skies and kids on the swings.
And file recovery.
In retrospect of how the Powerbook has been behaving, it seems that the hard drive is failing. I’m slowly recovering files and hope to get it all by this evening, but it’s an unpredictable process. On the bright side, it’s a reason to go computer shopping. I’d normally replace the hard drive, but I’m not about to attempt it on a Powerbook. My geek skills are good, but not that good.
In other news, I’m now on Twitter. I think my first tweet says it all:
“The assimilation is complete – I joined Twitter.”
So if you are inclined to see what I’m up to, follow me, peteej.
It’s All Just a Blur
The past 12 days have been exactly what you see here. Me passed out on University Avenue, watching cars pass by.
OK, maybe not, but it certainly felt like time flew by. My kids were out of school on Spring break and away for the entire time. My wife and I had a quiet house to ourselves. The days came and went. The kids returned safely home. Nancy finishes the Spring semester in about two weeks.
I’m not sure how this happens, but it feels like a time warp. Maybe Dan could explain it, since he’s a sci-fi writer and all that. Maybe I need inertial dampers to slow things down. Maybe I should quit my job and support my family as a pro blogger. LOL! Double LOL!
Either way, time is what it is and all I know is that I’m one year older as of the 6th of this month (gratuitous birthday mention) and I feel so much better for it. Go on and pass birthday wishes to Rolando as well, as he just turned 24 (again). If you have a birthday and I don’t know or didn’t remember, let me know and I’ll give you props.
As far as the site is concerned, you’ll notice the neato cool Revver widget thingy on the sidebar that contains the hundreds of video tutorials I’ve produced. OK, it’s only four, but the magnitude of their quality makes it seem like hundreds. I’m working on another one, so stay tuned.
Future improvements:
- putting back the top commentators widget as soon as it gets fixed for Wordpress 2.5
- adding some other cool widget that actually serves a purpose – suggestions are welcome
- opening a Cafepress shop so you can buy magnets and thongs with my photos on them…nah, too much work, but maybe in a year or ten
- asking you to send me your fab camera phone photos so you can be the next guest poster on this awesomely popular PR3 blog (pending me setting up an e-mail address for it)
- Strive to be like Joeprah, even though that is nearly impossible – at least his wit and humor can inspire me
Stay tuned for more exciting camera phone photos, like a cloud or a rock or maybe even a tree. Yeah man, breakin’ the rules.
That’s how I roll.

Planetary Lawn Bowling
Lawn bowling at night, courtesy Satchel’s Pizza, home of the best pizza in Gainesville (and possibly anywhere else). Not only is this a pizza joint, but it’s also an art gallery, a junk shop, a live music venue and an extremely child-friendly restaurant. The kids have three play areas and the adults have lawn bowling. And beer. And wine. Oh, and really awesome pizza. Green olives, roasted red peppers, garlic (real cloves, not that powdery stuff) and extra cheese.
The best part: I can walk there if I want. Yeah. Even better: all employees get a living wage and all the perks of so-called “real” jobs. Business is booming and it has been since they opened their doors. A welcome addition to the neighborhood, for sure.
