Second Shotz Group on Flickr is Rockin’

In an effort to learn the inner workings of Photoshop, I joined a new Flickr group called Second Shotz. It’s a group run by two great photographers, Chica from Photo Projectz and Drew from The BenSpark. Some members are new to Photoshop, others quite experienced, but none of them are arrogant and condescending. It’s a good group of people willing to learn from each other.
From the group description:
This group has been created to let you take and edit a “Straight out of the Camera” image. Edit it as you see fit and upload it back to the group. Each week a new image will be posted by the moderators. You will have one week to do your best on the image and upload them to the group. The top three images each week will be featured in blog posts on Photo Projectz http://photo-projectz.blogspot.com/ and The BenSpark http://www.benspark.com.
For me, this is more than just playing in Photoshop. It’s about learning Photoshop.
I often find myself balking at having to create anything in Photoshop, leaning toward Illustrator instead. I’ve always been partial to vector (points and lines), but I’m discovering that there’s a whole lot more to raster (pixels) than I give it credit. This group has already helped me learn more in two weeks by simply having fun instead of forcing myself through boring training videos or tutorials with no reward at the end.
I’ve posted a Flickr widget of the group in the sidebar if you’re interested in viewing or joining. There’s already been some great entries and I can guarantee that there’s more to come.

Pete, that is a wonderful write up for the group. I’m really glad that you are a part of this group.
For Photoshop, have you tried the podcast Photoshop elements Killer Tips. They are fast fun tips on editing on a range of different topics.

Thanks, Drew. It’s great to see you and Chica start something like this. I’m confident that it will be a huge success.
I’ll check out the podcast, thanks for the referral.

Oooh major pimping love, I dig it. If you’ve got any questions on how people are editing their photos, then feel free to ask, and if you’ve got anymore then holla at me, I’ll help you out.
I taught myself everything I know about photoshops. Hardly any tutorials either, until I started photo editing for photography, and not stock art where I was before. It was really more or less due to my stock photo/digital art days, is why I’m this far today. A lot of tinkering around, and a lot of mistakes along the way. You’ll get there if you want to. I’ve been using photoshop for two years now, and still don’t feel I know everything yet. :)

Pimpin’ ain’t easy…
I figured you had some sort of photo/art background from all the stuff you do on your site. Unfortunately, my full-time job doesn’t permit a whole lot of original work, due to the audience it serves. I use mostly stock photos and the like for layouts and websites, so I’ve always been limited in what I do with PS.
and you know I’ll tap into that head of yours if I need anything.

I love photoshop- everything I learn in there is from fooling around digital scrapbooking. I use to digital scrapbook everyday…
I need to get back to it, but it always seems like work & the kids make it hard to do. Your group sounds awesome, I’ll have to check out their work and learn from the masters. :0)

I hear you about the work and kids thing. Keeping this blog alive it difficult enough. Cramming in fun PS projects is me overbooking myself as usual. Oh well. :)

I really wish I knew how to use Photoshop. Right now I have Corel, but it doesn’t do everything I know Photoshop can do.
It’s good you found a group to get advice from, they’re hard to find now-a-days.

Photoshop does the laundry from what I can see. I haven’t even scratched the surface.
