Lost Your Marbles? Yeah, Me Too.
It’s obvious that you can’t get too close with a camera phone. I can get about 10″ away before the picture begins to blur. To overcome that in this instance, I got really close. Like waaaay close.
Chica’s latest photo project is to photograph a marble. I may be bending the rules a bit, but what you see is a marble, except that it’s sitting on the camera lens. No photo touch up, no filters, no nothing (except for levels). Just a semi-transparent, oval-shaped marble causing some wicked light refraction.
Nancy and I shot about a dozen of these, so you may see more of these in the future. The first three are mine and the next three are Nancy’s. I’d normally post one photo, but these are so cool that I’m posting six. Enjoy!
Side note: I asked my youngest for a few marbles and she said, “Why? Are you going to take pictures of them?” I’m getting a reputation for photographing stuff, I guess.

It’s good to get a reputation for something like taking pictures of marbles.
It’s bad to get a reputation that includes you being photographed losing your marbles-
ask
Amy Winehouse (I saw a pic of her yesterday and she is bald in spots!!! OUCH)
Lindsay Lohan
Paris Hilton
I looked at the pics before I read the post, the third one down on the left, I thought that you put your camera up to a salt water aquarium. I thought “aha”- that one gives it away it looks like a sponge under water.

Wow those are friggin sweet! the second looks like a pic you’d take at the moon or something. Right on Pete and Nancy!
Chica,
that was the most fun 30 minutes I have had in 4-ever with the camera phone thingy! I remember when I was younger shooting everything and anything in multiple varieties of f-stops and aperture settings, lens swaps and all the rest, at the end of the day I always had the same thought…”I wonder which ones will turn out!” Then getting the gratuitous weird accidental hit of the shutter and some funky reflection or double exposure…
and now, it amazes me that I can look at my pictures and mess them up and have instant gratification for screwing up “out of the box!” What a bloody hoot!!
So “looking through the marble” was a clever play on what I did as a kid, I would literally memorize and categorize my marbles by features and this particular marble would have been a prize that only I could love, in that it is not round.
When Pete showed it to me, I couldn’t wrap my head around his statement, “…you’ll find it, it’s the only marble in there that is squished in the middle… no, it is not round, sort-of I guess.”
I was dumb-struck, he turned around and reached into a tub-full–O–marbles and it was the first one he picked up… meanwhile I have to look at it for a while until my mechanical mind-trap relents and sees how it could be a “not round marble.”
I couldn’t even consider one picture w/o figuring that “how can a marble not BE ROUND!?!?!? thing out…
Once the Ahh Haa! of the not-roundness struck, I was then freed by my reasonable mind and able to indulge in the “oh, so, coolness of choosing when to hit the shutter for a particular image that my psycho-imagination saw in the flickers and sparks.
It was GROOVY-DUDES!
Right-On back at you for noticing the moonscape that peteej got!
In others that may appear some day you’ll see slimy critters and much more. It was a productive half hour of not getting anything but “a-pictorial results” … then the marble started being difficult to hold and the blog monster was telling me to cap it for now.
My best regards to the one with the marble fetish! Specifically b/c you revitalized mine!
hey hunny, at least that daughter didn’t say, “why? did you lose a few of yours?” that would be right up their alley, lately. You must have caught her in a really tired & bland, or a TV-head moment…. come on which was it? mom wants to know…unless of course you are too busy “Looking through your marbles?”
Gee, here I thought there was going to be some pictures of John McCain or something. Oh yeah…he lost his BEARINGS. Sorry.
