How to Get More Blog Traffic via Wordless Wednesday

After a stellar showing yesterday for my 18th Wordless Wednesday, I decided that it was time to show some love to a community that has made Hump Day so much more meaningful. Since you’ve been so good to me, dear readers, here are my “secrets” to becoming a blogging supernova (or at least a dwarf planet).
- Add your link to the list early – the higher to the top, generally, the more hits. Yesterday, I was 4th out of 626, which referred 57 visitors. However, I’ve been in the 300s and still get respectable numbers.
- Link directly to the post page, not your home page. That way, if you decide to post later in the day, visitors won’t have to search for the post, especially if it’s hidden below-the-fold.
- Be consistent with your name when adding your link. Some people choose to use all caps or other special characters to stand out among the hundreds of links. Either way, pick something and stick with it. Personally, I just use my site name with no frills – My GPS Camera Phone.
- Leave a comment on the WW blog when you post (which I totally forgot to do yesterday). It’s another way to post your link and validates your participation in the event.
- Post an interesting or noteworthy photo if you can. Abstract imagery has worked well for me.
- Make every attempt to comment on the sites of at least those who comment on your photo. The WW community is great and comments are usually reciprocated.
- Try being consistent and participate often. I’m on 18 entries now and I see some of the same return visitors each Wednesday, some of which have translated into regular visitors.
- Realize that it’s not a photo competition and take each participant’s entry for what it’s worth. This isn’t the place to be critical (unless of course it’s requested by the photographer). It is, however, a great place to discover new blogs.
- Don’t try to game the system – like I said, the community is smart and can spot a cheat.
- Have fun with it! Even if you end up being the last one on the list, you will still get traffic.

Ohhhhhhhhh – I had no idea that was what Wordless Wednesday was! I thought there were just a lot of folk around who hit a slump mid week and had cottoned on to this nice way of remedying (is that a word?) it. Oh man, I totally forgot about revealing the image! I was so caught up in the good fortunes of yesterday, lol.
It’s a photo shot through the last 4 ounces of a supremely delicious half-and-half, which is a beer consisting of half Harp and half Guinness, the end result being one beer floating on top of the other. It starts out heavy with Guinness, then finishes nicely with the lighter Harp at the bottom. That’s what the amber color is that you see in the photo.
Dude, my posts are so random, I like the advice though. I am liking your sites look. Almost as good as Joomla…cept totally not at all.

Thanks for the link! Somehow I missed this post when you first published it. Your advice is spot-on. Besides, in addition to bringing new traffic (and many who ultimately return again and again)Wordless Wednesday is just fun. I enjoy making the rounds every Wednesday to see what kinds of images the participants post. I have my favorites, which I visit every week now, but every Wednesday I also make it a point to visit five or six sites that are new to me.
