About a month ago, I discussed a the possibility of bunch of new things coming to My GPS Camera Phone. Today, I am happy to present one of those big additions - video tutorials on photo editing.
Being a visual person, I find it difficult to learn about graphics software by just looking at a user guide or a text tutorial. While there are many good tutorials out there, I haven’t seen many video-based ones. In an attempt to fill that void and to bring the mysteries of photo editing to the “regular guy/girl,” I’ll be creating and offering these short tutorials.
Each video will only run around three minutes, so watching them won’t require a huge block of time. I’m hoping to pass on helpful photo editing tips and software use methods so anyone can understand them. While you can’t make a bad picture good, you can make a good picture better. I hope to be able to show you how.

Learn how to quickly crop an image, adjust the levels and punch up those colors in three easy steps. Based in Adobe Photoshop® CS (not CS2 like I say in the video).

It looks and you sound great. Yes, eventually I want to include them on my website. I use Final Cut Express HD. I use SnapProX to create tutorials on my computer.

Yay!!! What a fantastic idea! Maybe there’s hope for me yet…although I still think much of your genius comes from your (and your wife’s) artistic eye(s). Ooh, rats, guess I’ll need PhotoShop (?). Anyway, this tutorial (and future tutorials) will undoubtedly help. Hooray!! Great, great addition!

That was really good…I might actually get to learn a bit more than adjusting the brightness and contrast in Photoshop, if you keep this up!

Opal: If I ever move to a FAST mac, I’ll probably look into those programs. I know the last time I looked at Final Cut, it was the Pro version and it was incredibly overwhelming.
Susanne: Thank you, I was hoping my overabundance of “ums” wasn’t getting in the way. I need to de-”um”ify next time.
Phred: Funny you say that. It landed on 3:30, so I was all like, do I round up or down? And then I was like, round down because it sounds better than 4 minutes. Like, totally. (Trying to break the um habit…”like” is not a good replacement.)
Big N: I was going for something Barry White-ish, but I don’t think I accomplished that. Since we are together for eternity, I’ll have that video to you in one to thirty years.
bmgmom: you already figured out that I’ll be doing Picasa as well, so I got you covered. Thanks for the kind words, but you’re going to be a pro before long. Stay with me, i have some good stuff lined up in the coming months.

Diane: Thanks, there is actually more in Photoshop, lots more than you would ever think, but I find myself doing the basic stuff all the time. I’m actually more of a points-and-lines Adobe Illustrator type.
meleah: I just had someone talk up Aperture for about 30 minutes, so now I wonder if I’m missing out. You already have the Apple computer…Aperture next? I’d suggest Picasa, but I don’t think they have a Mac version. Maybe?

Dude, Pete’s voice! Awesome. You sound like a total nerd…like me in fact. Awesome. Cropping, I can crop…and yeah plane jane blows…keep the flag poll. Washed out? Holy crap I do have these things on elements…wtf, you rule. I totally did it step by step and my photo was dramatically better. I am totally giving you props on my next pete photo I post. YOU RULE!!!
