Dog Days of Autumn
What a week it has been.
My kids’ annual drama production is finally over, but it’s always a fun event. I volunteer my video editing skills and master a DVD for them every year, which gives the parents a chance to have a copy of the play while contributing to the school’s funds. I shot in 16:9 this year, so I was able to do more zoom and pan stuff without losing anyone in the frame. Hopefully, that will be done this month.
I’ve been getting mega link love from Dan, which makes me wonder if he’s going to quit blogging soon. It’s not just me, but everyone is getting the hook up. So many others have hung it up indefinitely that I’m wondering if he’s next. I hope not. Dan, don’t leave us!
Nancy is in the waning days of her second-to-last semester in college and it is crunch time around my house. Papers due, tests coming up…enough to make anyone crazy. Throw in a few kids, just to keep you on your toes and you’ve got a recipe for insanity. One more semester and we’ll be a dual degree family! I can’t wait for the student loan payments to begin!
A pleasant sursrise hit me yesterday when I checked my stats – I had a huge traffic spike on Thursday, courtesy the StumbleUpon fairy. Thanks to all you stumblers who came across my site. To the Google visitor who searched for “how to get striked down with lightning,” you should probably seek help of some kind. Really.
Finally, the photo above is Thor, the old man and alpha male of the house. He’s an awesome dog who likes to bark. A lot. Really loudly. I’m convinced that he’s a human stuck inside a dog’s body because he has a repertoire of barks and growls far exceeding that of any other dog I’ve met. It sounds like he’s trying to form words, but they just don’t come out right. Either way, I’m wishing I could be him today, laying outside in the grass (er, weeds) while Nancy plows through a Russian Literature paper on the trusty Powerbook.
Though Thor doesn’t fit the rigorous standards of an AKC showdog, he is pure-bred and would rather hang out than travel around showing off his poofy self. More info on the American Eskimo dogs
Edited in Photoshop CS – clipped Thor out as a new layer and applied Gaussian blur to the background. Minor level adjustments.

Excellent photo of very cute dog. Sounds like it is all go ‘chez vous’ at a very busy time of the year anyway. All good stuff though….
Not quite sure how Stumbleupon works out when to give a huge spike – it seems very random to me.
Diane’s last blog post..Luscious lips
Great photo.
Stumble Fairy is a GREAT idea.

Diane: Oui oui, very much so. Stumble is random, but when it hits, look out!
meleah: I’ll have to create a Stumble Fairy graphic or something and post it every time I get a spike.
Thor has been destined for a Good life ever since he was adopted. He’s a Grand Ole Dog with lots of times to share on his own Blog once you figure out his language to transcribe his Blog for the rest of us. One thing for sure everyone of his barks is done fullheartedly and not halfway. Thanks for your praise of my favorable comments life is too short not to acknowledge those words. Take care.
Russian literature…yikes! I would like to be Thor too until she is into something a bit more interesting like Swedish Literature. LOL! JK. Rock on you guys and cool dog. You see, camera pic, that’s what I am talking about. Lates!
I love the photo. Your dog looks like he’s fun and sweet-natured.
Stephen’s last blog post..oy.
Did you try keeping the ground (looks like concrete or stone) on Thor’s layer to see how that looks? I’m thinking it may have been a bit more natural looking if the ground at his feet were in focus (since his feet are).
He still looks good for being an “old man.”

That dog is so cute. I miss having a pup around. It’s lonely without animals. I had them all my life until I moved here. *sigh*

Leatherboots: Fullheartedly, yeah, I’ll remember that next time.
Joe: Dude, she read War and Peace cover-to-cover. For real.
Stephen: He’s a good dog, but he barks at just the right pitch to make my ears bleed.
dcr: Darn, I have to stop taking shortcuts. I was in a hurry, but I wanted to do a better job on the depth of field. C’est la vie.
AntiBarbie: You’ll get another one someday. I wasn’t planning on any dogs and now I have three. Go figure.
Thor’s such a lovely dog.
I like looking at dogs but I’m terrified of them… thanks to a very unfortunate event I had when I was about 9 years old.

joe, joe, joe,
too bad, you are missing the finer things in life if you do not become part of the War & Peace, Anna Karenina, the Brothers Karamakov, Fool, Leo T & The Devil, Notes From the Underground & Other Stories About Crazy People in Russia, The Devil & The Idiot Fyodor D club… you so clazy!
petej – quit dang ‘ole gossipping about me in YOUR ‘it’s all about me,” [peteej needs foreign love & admiration w/ safety from stalkers, etc] blog, fool!” just wait till my exams are done, you’ll see my commenting wrath fall upon you like owl vomit on a barn floor! xxu ;o
sloppy for an English major, but good for a Canadian English Major reading Russian Lit… SHABOOM!
shiera: start with small dogs and work your way up. I’ve got a chihuahua that packs a punch but has no chance of scaring anyone because she stands about 6 inches tall. Oh wait, you’re on the other side of the world, I guess that’s not going to work. How about a picture of my dog?
russia rocks/typos R us: Owl vomit? ;D SHABOOM!
