Guardian

1007071714a.jpgThis light post is the guardian of my street. It casts away the darkness and provides a ring of hopeful security for my neighbors and I. It stands, unflinchingly, solemnly, watching children grow up, conversing with squirrels and birds.

  2. LOL! That’s too funny. We might have to start a pay site for that, I’m sure there’s an audience (which is a disturbing thought). :)

  3. LOL! I never thought of it that way, but you’re absolutely right. There’s a weird audience for everything

  4. Pete, I love the way the power line looks like a tightrope. As if the building is tottering along, suspended by that one, thin cable. You have a gift for composition, pardner!

  5. There’s not many light poles on our street, but of the few we do have one right across the street from us. For that, I am very thankful for this tall guardian.

This is short and sweet pete!

  6. I really like your narration and really feel that any beacon will help provide security. Therefor, I keep my Houselights on outside usually until after Midnight. Thanks for bringing an awareness to this Guardian.

  7. Thanks, Michele! Great observation – I love the way someone else will see an element of a photo in a totally different way. I saw it less metaphorically, as an element to complement the other lines in the image (pole, light). I like your interpretation. :)

  8. Rolando: I had to put up some serious window coverings to block out the light. We have regularly placed lights, but there’s so many big trees that the light is blocked in many places. (Sweet Pete, kinda has a ring to it…) :D

Leatherboots: There’s an interesting flip-side to this story. I read recently that leaving lights on actually does little to prevent a break-in. If anything, leaving them off keeps criminals away more. Can you believe it?! I wish I could remember the site I read this on…

  9. I love the perspective here. I love taking pictures either looking up or down at the subject. Really emphasizes the magnitude or lack there of.

  10. Maybe I’ll take a shot from the top next time. It can’t be that hard to climb… If I had a non-camera phone, I’d be able to fix the depth of field, but then this blog wouldn’t exist. :)
