Door to the Underground

Manhole covers are so cool. I think it’s because they’re totally indestructible and there’s so many old ones in every town. These are the gateways to the innards of the city, a place where few go. Driven over many times a day, enduring searing summer heat and freezing winter cold, never complaining, wearing an eternal smile.

I like that, the eternal smile…I never thought of it that way! Now when I next see a manhole, I’ll be thinking of this post and it’ll make me smile, haha!
