A Sunset to a Perfect Day
Angles in the Bathroom
And you thought this was going to be some gross picture of bathroom unmentionables. Shame on you.
Angles are cool. I usually only tilt a little bit to offset the horizon, but this one screamed for the half-and-half look. I did some cropping to get the diagonal centered and some minor level and color adjustments. Lighting was typical bathroom fluorescent – lovely! (Thank you white balance!)
What seems so boring can be made exciting simply by turning the camera. It’s a simple way to spruce up your photo quality. Try it sometime.
More Tree Bark
Man’s Best Friend’s Best Friend
This lonely fire hydrant stands guard over my workplace. I’d say hello every time I pass it, but that might adversely affect my employment. Instead, I stop and take pictures of it. Strangely, the act of photographing everyday objects gets me more stares than I’d expect. So much for maintaining a sane reputation.
Why is that anyway? I used to feel uncomfortable shooting anything but the regular stuff – landmarks, friends, family, birthdays – but seeing the results makes me shoot more “unusual” things and in more crowded places than I ever have. For some reason, people find what I’m doing unusual. For me, it has become a game where I try to catch the person staring at me. I get some pretty funny reactions.
I Pine for Bark
UPDATE: New title by Joeprah. Even more cheesier than mine – I love it.
All together now: LAME TITLE! Well, yeah, but if you could think of a better one, I’ll change it and give you credit. :p
Pine trees are everywhere in North Central Florida, standing straight and incredibly tall. When we had some hurricanes blow through a few years ago, my friend had four giant pines go down in his yard. Amazingly, none hit his house. Most pines people see now are transplants, not old growth. Go find some untouched land and see what a pine tree is supposed to look like. They’re nothing like those spindly, lumber-farm twigs grown in corn rows.
Moving to a New Domain – Maybe
I need your advice.
I read an article today from The Monetizer that mentions that moving to a new domain name makes you start over in search engine rankings. If this were a perfect world, I could post a 301 redirect, but Blogger doesn’t do that. This blog is less than a month old and I think moving now would not be too detrimental. Besides, ProBlogger just posted about PageRank and how not to get obsessed with it.
Another reason is that I love WordPress. I dream of customizable, 3-column layouts. I want more control over the big picture. I want to host my images on my own domain. Centralized power, ya know?
Also, if I changed my domain in MyBlogLog, Blog Catalog, etc… would it alienate my friends and community? I’m at a loss here and time is of the essence.
I appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks.
Thunderhead Closing In
I have an office with a view. Unfortunately, it’s a view of Interstate 75, but with the stroke of my magical crop tool, it disappears!
This is the time of year we get big storms moving across the state, like this one. Sometimes they stack up two, three, four in a row and you can watch them pass from a distance. This storm stayed away, but I got rain later that day. Rain is awesome.
